The Importance of Creativity

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the importance of creativity and the power of our imaginations. I just finished reading Rising Strong by the brilliant Social Scientist, Dr. Brene Brown and I’m currently reading Big Magic by the wonderful Elizabeth Gilbert. Both of these women have inspired me to further my believe in the power of owning our creativity.

The most powerful lesson I have discovered in this search is that ALL humans are born creatives. Every achievement in this world is because we had the ability to use our imagination to do so!

Creativity is something that lives deep in our soul. This is why children’s imaginations are ripe and full of magical things! They’re actually in the process of developing their creativity tool. I believe it’s extremely important that we spend time nurturing this quality and providing a safe place for children’s imaginations to soar.

To share things you’ve created with the world is vulnerable and extremely scary ( I get intimidated writing a small blog post ) but it’s what we must do if we want live a wholehearted life. Yes, it’s scary but what’s our alternative? Dr. Brene Brown says, “Unused creativity is not benign—it metastasizes. It turns into grief, rage, judgement, sorrow, shame.” This is why it’s so important that all of us grow up trusting our inner creative.

Everyday I fall more in love with my work because I’m upstanding how important a theater school centered on imagination and creativity can be. It might appear as simply “make believe time” but it’s the freedom of play and time spent nurturing self expression that will help children grow up believing in their creative self worth. I believe it’s time we start educating not only our children’s minds but their hearts and watch creativity change our world!
